Yes all Nintendo consoles are region locked. PS3, however, is not region locked at all and the HD collection is already released on it!
If you can speak Japanese it’s totally worth picking it up. They are the definitive version of the game and based on the current screenshots the WiiU has blurry textures!

I’m playing through Yakuza/Ryu Ga Gotoku 3 for the first time, after playing 1,2, 4, Dead Souls and Kenzan… Gotta say I’m really impressed!! Here’s hoping the HD collection/5 gets released in the States!

Next Nagoshi-raw announced where they will be playing the Ryu Ga Gotoku 1&2 HD WiiU version live for the first time!
Watch it live here next Monday at 9PM JST.
They will also be answering questions from the audience and discussing the mascot contest entries. It’ll be in complete Japanese but it’s Nagoshi-san hanging out and drinking while playing video games!

Hopefully Sega will show us something at E3 this year. With Sony’s press conference it would be a great place to say “We’re not forgetting about the PS3 just yet. Boom Yakuza 5!”
