From 4Gamers year end interview wrap ups we get 2 mini interviews with Nagoshi-san and Yokoyama-san. Reflecting on 2016 and what they hope to accomplish in the new year we get the first hint that Ryu Ga Gotoku will continue and they may be ready to announce something new soon!

With Ryu Ga Gotoku  being the end of Kiryu’s story it’ll be interesting to see what we get next. Will it be a new spinoff title with a whole new cast or will we get another Kiryu game set in between? Take a read of each interview below and make up your own mind.

TGS 2017 is still a while away meaning we’ll likely start seeing our first hints of something new on either a SEGA~nama stream or in famitsu! We’ve known for a while now that RGG Studio was hiring for a new secret project but we still don’t know what!

With so much uncertainty if they will continue the series past 6 it’s relieving to read the interviews below and know that Ryu Ga Gotoku will continue.

Toshihiro Nagoshi

Sega Games
Director of Sega Games / “Ryu ga Gotoku” series general manager
Masterpiece: “Ryu ga Gotoku” series

  1. Among the games released in 2016, what title most impressed (or shocked) you?
    Title name: “PlayStation VR”
Although it is not a title, it provides a new way to play games. Looking forward to the challenge.
  2. The most impressive piece of entertainment content released in 2016
    The movie ‘Your Name
The reason is… We could talk all night it is a wonderful work that combines excellent scenarios with live-action movie methods, animated techniques, and so on. I could cry hotly. It was a great learning experience as a creator.
  3. Person you have personally taken note of in 2016?
There’s no one in particular. This idea conversely comes across as reinforcing, year by year, the fast-moving nature of our time in which that role changes in an instant, even though we live in an age of excess information which we can all access at any time.
  4. Resolution for 2017 and a message for 4Gamer readers.
This year we released Ryu ga Gotoku 6: The Song of Life., and reached a juncture in the Ryu ga Gotoku series. I think that the conclusion of the story of Kazuma Kiryu, who has served as the protagonist for more than a decade, will be met with a mixed reception. Even still, both myself and the team are working hard and aiming to create content that will be enjoyable to the max. I believe that this is us repaying Kazuma Kiryu, too. At some point soon, I think I’ll be announcing something different. Please look forward to it.

Yokoyama Masayoshi

Sega Games
“Ryu ga Gotoku 6 Poems of Life.” Chief Producer / Screenplay / Director
Masterpiece: “Ryu ga Gotoku” series

  1. Among the games released in 2016, what title most impressed (or shocked) you?
Title name: “Summer lesson: Hikari Miyamoto Seven Days Room”
A long-selling presence that pulled the PlayStation VR for two years. I think that it is a title packed with Japanese “now” in various ways.
  2. The most impressive piece of entertainment content released / released in 2016
It was a year I was addicted to NHK Taiga Drama “Sanada Maru” Every success cast of the Ryu ga Suku series has appeared many times, and every time Enken (Mr. Endo Kenichi) comes out, “Woo Oh, Sakiguchi Kakke!” (“Junji Sugiuchi in Ryu ga Gotoku 4 Legend” I was amused with screaming.)
  3. Person you have personally taken note of in 2016?
Kei Nishikori tennis, the Olympic men’s singles quarterfinals can not be forgotten.
  4. Resolution for 2017 and a message for 4 Gamer readers
In 2016, for the first time since the founding of the Ryu ga Gotoku Studio we ended up releasing two games – Ryu ga Gotoku Kiwami and Ryu ga Gotoku 6: The Song of Life. – in a single year, and as such this has felt like the longest year of my life. Now that we’re done with making “the final chapter in the legend of Kazuma Kiryu”, I think that 2017 will be the year in which we take our first steps towards “what comes next”. I’m sort of thinking of ways we can give you to enjoy a new Ryu ga Gotoku that ties together both the past and the future.
