SEGA announced today that a live-action ‘STRANGER THAN HEAVEN’ movie is in the works at Netflix with Toru Nakahara to be producer on the film adaptation.
Toru Nakahara was previously the producer on successful SEGA films; Sonic the Hedgehog (2020), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024) along with most other modern SEGA film adaptations.
Toru Nakahara, head producer at Sega, commented: “Expect something cute yet cool for ‘Sonic,’ hilariously crazy for ‘Crazy Taxi’ and a badass action drama for ‘Stranger Than Heaven,’ because we’ve got some amazing creative ideas lined up and we are just getting started. The whole team is absolutely thrilled!”

“Stranger Than Heaven” hails from RGG Studio, developer of the bestselling “Like a Dragon: Yakuza” series, with over 30 million copies sold. The game, set to be released in January 2027, is set in early 20th century Japan, following a foreigner who claws his way from destitute stranger to feared yakuza to entertainment tycoon. Toru Nakahara is set as producer on the film.
